Meath U21A Football Championship

Meath Under 21 ‘A’ Football Championship
About 11 teams took part in the first round of Meath Under 21 ‘A’ Championship to yield 8 teams for the quarter finals
Quarter Finals
St. Patrick’s   1-9       Vs        Duleek/Bellewstown  2-13
St. Patricks came into this game with momentum gained from their thrilling win over a very much fancied Ratoath team. However Duleek/Bellewstown have done well in the recent years in this competition and spoiled St. Patrick’s party by going out comfortable winners in the end.
Trim   0-6       Vs        0-10     Walterstown
A young Trim team, many of whom will be still underage for next year’s competition, just came up short against last year’s finalists, Walterstown, which contained a lot of players from last year’s final used their experience to graft out a win to the next round.
Oldcastle         1-10     Vs        1-12     Kilmainham/Drumbaragh
This was the game to watch so far in this year’s competition as it was always going to be a close contest. Oldcastle had senior club players in Cian McPartland, Tommy Rahill, Conor McHugh, Robert Farrelly and not to forget county star Paddy Gilsenan but the amalgamated side of Kilmainham/Drumbaragh had their own star players in NUI Maynooth Sigerson player Mickey Newman, Drogheda United Darragh McNamara, Enda Nulty and Willie Carry all of whom were part of the successful 2008 Meath minor team under Pat Coyle. With 5 remaining in the 2nd half Oldcastle were up 1-10 to 1-7 but the amalgamated side fought back to score 5 points in 5 minutes to win the match.
Dunshaughlin            1-19     Vs        0-5       Na Fianna
It was expected that Dunshaughlin would win this tie but by how much was the question no-one knew the answer to before the match begun. Dunshaughlin started 6 players who played in the county final SFC replay; Alastar Doyle, Tommy Johnson, Eoin Hegarty, Fergus Toolin, Conor Deveraux, Tadhg O Dushlaine and Niall Murphy. Conditions were very wet when this game was played but Dunshaughlin to their credit still managed to achieve a high score line by the end of the game.
