Meath County Board refuse five-year sponsorship

Meath County Board refuse five-year sponsorship worth €375,000 from Element Power building a wind-farm in North Meath.

A proposal by Element Power building of wind turbines in north Meath to make a €375,000 payment to the development of the Meath GAA Centre of Excellence at Dunganny near Trim was to be voted on by club delegates. The GAA county board executive had recommended acceptance of the offer of €75,000 a year over the next five years.

But Meath GAA and Element Power issued a joint statement  Fri 8 Aug 2014.

The board said it had decided that "that it is not appropriate for a voluntary sporting organisation like the GAA to engage in a complex debate on renewable energy and consequently will decline the offer from Element Power".

Meath County Board reported that a loan of €1 million would need to be borrowed over a five to 10 year period for work on the Centre of Excellence in Dunganny, Trim at the August 2014 meeting of the Meath County Committee. The finance would have to be in place as the contractor would want assurances that he was going to get paid.

Donegal overcome an all-Ulster showdown in Croke Park to get place in the All-Ireland football semi-final.
Armagh and their behaviour reaching a ridiculous level.
Armagh pulled out of a scheduled press conference before Meath Game.
Selector Peter McDonnell and injured captain Ciaran McKeever had been expected to be in attendance but no show.
In keeping with their recent 'media ban', the Armagh team refused to cooperate with photographers by having their picture taken before today's clash with Donegal.
Earlier this week, the Ulster county infuriated journalists by cancelling a scheduled press briefing at the Carrickdale Hotel in Ravensdale.

Joe Brolly makes light of the push by Armagh's Aaron Findon on Donegal team doctor Kevin Moran in the Donegal v Armagh game which Donegal won.
Aaron Findon on Colm McFadden, who got entangled in front of the Hill 16 end. Various members of the management teams then spilled onto the field, including Armagh manager Paul Grimley and assistant Kieran McGeeney

Meath BYTE the DUST against Dublin in Leinster SFC final Sun 20 Jul 14

Meath BYTE the DUST against Dublin in Leinster SFC final Sun 20 Jul 14
Meath Dog Fight
Meath Wouff Stuff

Dublin retain Leinster championship and the Delaney Cup with a 3-20 to 1-10 win over Meath at Croke Park on Sun 20 July 2014. Dublin ran out convincing winners.

Dublin 3-20
Meath 1-10
Dublin led by 9 points, 1-12 to 0-6 at half time

In the first half Stephen Bray's goal was disallowed as the whistle had sounded for a free-in with no advantage played. Meath had a goal disallowed but they got a point from the free in the 25th minute! The decision was made by referee Padraig Hughes to disallow a Meath goal
Dublin’s Connolly and Meath’s Tobin picked up yellow cards for tussling off the ball
Meath lost Ratoath man McMahon to a head injury
Dublin’s O'Gara apparently dragged Meath full back Kevin Reilly to the ground. Yellow cards were issued to O'Gara, Paddy O'Rourke and Royal sub Mickey Burke for the incident that followed.  Mickey Burke from Longwood  allegedly received a bite. Dublin's Leinster SFC final victory over Meath has been marred by yet another biting controversy. Mick O’Dowd was extremely disappointed.

The CCCC is expected to investigate the alleged incident. Dublin defender Kevin O'Brien, who didn't play today, was handed a proposed three-match ban for an allegedly biting Donegal's Paddy McBrearty in April 2013, only to have it revoked by the Central Hearings Committee after McBrearty failed to give evidence against him.

Last January, defender Jason Whelan was hit with an eight-week ban following another CCCC investigation into biting allegations in Dublin's O'Byrne Cup defeat to DCU.

DUBLIN’S former All-Ireland winning performance psychologist Caroline Currid insists that the melee involving Eoghan O’Gara in the Leinster final cannot be compared with Luis Suarez’s biting offences
“I couldn’t understand what else Eoghan O’Gara is going to do. The teeth are in his mouth, this player has put his hand in his mouth… yes, I do think this has been blown out of proportion.”

Dublin legend Charlie Redmond has branded Meath as "shameful" for making such a big deal about the tussle between Mickey Burke and Eoghan O'Gara.
Charlie insists Meath have embarrassed themselves by highlighting the incident:

Interesting posturing by Dublin at the pre match handshake or lack of it with Paddy O’Rourke being the target. Fair play to them.

Next Meath outing Saturday, August 2 against Armagh should be a tough one.
