Dublin
retain Leinster championship and the Delaney Cup with a 3-20 to 1-10 win over
Meath at Croke Park on Sun 20 July 2014. Dublin ran out convincing winners.

Meath
1-10
Dublin
led by 9 points, 1-12 to 0-6 at half time
In the
first half Stephen Bray's goal was disallowed as the whistle had sounded for a
free-in with no advantage played. Meath had a goal disallowed but they
got a point from the free in the 25th minute! The decision was
made by referee Padraig Hughes to
disallow a Meath goal
Dublin’s
Connolly and Meath’s Tobin picked up yellow cards for tussling off the ball
Meath
lost Ratoath man McMahon to a head injury
Dublin’s
O'Gara apparently dragged Meath full back Kevin Reilly
to the ground. Yellow cards were issued to O'Gara, Paddy O'Rourke and Royal sub
Mickey Burke for the incident that followed. Mickey
Burke from Longwood allegedly received a
bite. Dublin's Leinster SFC final victory over Meath has been marred by yet
another biting controversy. Mick O’Dowd was extremely disappointed.
The CCCC
is expected to investigate the alleged incident. Dublin defender Kevin O'Brien,
who didn't play today, was handed a proposed three-match ban for an allegedly
biting Donegal's Paddy McBrearty in April 2013, only to have it revoked by the
Central Hearings Committee after McBrearty failed to give evidence against him.
Last
January, defender Jason Whelan was hit with an eight-week ban following another
CCCC investigation into biting allegations in Dublin's O'Byrne Cup defeat to
DCU.
DUBLIN’S
former All-Ireland winning performance psychologist Caroline Currid insists
that the melee involving Eoghan O’Gara in the Leinster final cannot be compared
with Luis Suarez’s biting offences
“I
couldn’t understand what else Eoghan O’Gara is going to do. The teeth are in
his mouth, this player has put his hand in his mouth… yes, I do think this has
been blown out of proportion.”
Dublin
legend Charlie Redmond has branded Meath as "shameful" for making
such a big deal about the tussle between Mickey Burke and Eoghan O'Gara.
Charlie insists Meath have embarrassed themselves by highlighting the incident:
Interesting
posturing by Dublin at the pre match handshake or lack of it with Paddy O’Rourke
being the target. Fair play to them.
Next
Meath outing Saturday, August 2 against Armagh should be a tough one.
